Matthew Leish, long-time newsroom lawyer and litigator for the New York Daily News and former Assistant General Counsel for Tribune Publishing Company, has joined Miller Korzenik Sommers Rayman LLP as a partner in its New York office, the firm announced today.
Mr. Leish - who has over 20 years of experience representing media companies, journalists, and authors both as in-house counsel and in private practice - will handle a wide range of First Amendment and intellectual property-related litigation as well as conducting pre-publication review and providing general advice and counsel. Over the course of his career, he has regularly defended his media clients against defamation and copyright suits, quashed subpoenas served on reporters, brought motions seeking access to court proceedings and documents, litigated public records disputes, vetted articles, and advised on a host of matters ranging from photo use questions to trademark disputes. Mr. Leish speaks and writes frequently on media law and First Amendment issues and has taught media law to journalism students as an Adjunct Professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
MKSR partner David S. Korzenik said "Matt's joining us as a partner affirms our shared commitment to media law, intellectual property, and the defense of First Amendment principles. That is what Matt's professional commitment has been over the years and that has been the prime and virtually exclusive commitment of this Firm since the outset."
"MKSR has an outstanding reputation in the media law field," Mr. Leish said. "I am very excited to be joining the firm and its stellar group of media law attorneys."
