Left-hander Alex Vesia, a key cog in the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen, went on the injured list on Tuesday because of a strained right oblique.
The move is retroactive to Saturday. The Dodgers replaced Vesia on the roster by activating left-hander Blake Snell from the paternity list. Snell was away from the club for three days but did not miss a start.
Vesia leads the Dodgers with 22 holds, but he has struggled over the past three weeks. In 53 appearances through Aug. 5, he was 2-0 with four saves and a 2.33 ERA. In six outings since then, he is 1-2 with three blown saves and a 6.00 ERA. However, he did work a scoreless inning in his most recent appearance, against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday.
Vesia, 29, began his major league career by making five appearances for the Miami Marlins in 2020 before he was traded to Los Angeles the next spring.
In six seasons overall, he has an 18-13 record with 12 saves and a 2.87 ERA in 291 games (one start).
Snell owns a 3-2 record with a 1.97 ERA through six starts this season. He most recently opposed the host San Diego Padres on Friday, when he lost 2-1 after permitting two runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over seven innings.
