Dylan Beavers' RBI single snapped a seventh-inning tie and the visiting Baltimore Orioles went on to a 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday.
Beavers came through with two outs against reliever Robert Suarez, scoring Jeremiah Jackson from second. Jackson and Gunnar Henderson set up the inning with one-out singles against Jason Adam (8-4).
Not only did Adam suffer the loss, he left the game after Henderson's hit via a cart. Adam appeared to injure his left leg on the pitch that served up Henderson's chopper up the middle. The exact nature of his injury wasn't immediately released, although Adam was seen telling trainers he 'felt something pop.'
Dietrich Enns (2-2) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win, with Keegan Akin working the ninth for his fourth save as Baltimore won for just the third time in 12 games.
Neither starter was involved in the decision. The Orioles' Kyle Bradish pitched four innings, allowing four hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts. San Diego's Dylan Cease also worked four innings, permitting five hits and two runs while walking two and fanning seven.
Baltimore initiated scoring in the second when rookie Samuel Basallo laced a two-run double to right-center, plating Beavers and Dylan Carlson. The Padres fought back with two in their half of the inning as Bryce Johnson and Luis Arraez punched RBI singles.
Jackson gave the Orioles a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth with his third homer of the year, a solo blast off reliever Adrian Morejon that struck the batter's eye behind the center field wall.
San Diego equalized in their half of the fifth with an unearned run, thanks to Enns' throwing error on Freddy Fermin's bunt. Former Baltimore outfielder Ramon Laureano pulled a run-scoring single to left to tie it.
The Orioles outhit the Padres 11-7, with Jackson going 3-for-5. They also got two hits apiece from Beavers and Basallo.
Arraez collected three hits for San Diego, including the 1,000th hit of his career in the seventh inning.
